This Standard provides guidelines for the construction, operation, maintenance, and
fire protection of limited-access highways, tunnels, bridges, elevated highways, and
air right structures.
NFPA 502 has been revised for the 2001 edition to include new thresholds to
determine the extent of the application of the standards requirements. It also
contains new requirements for means of egress in tunnels, including exit spacing and
travel distance
